Andrew Doan, MD, PhD  (View Verified Reviews)

Dr. Doan practices comprehensive ophthalmology and eye pathology and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Doan treats a broad range of eye disorders including eye cancers and tumors. Born in Saigon Vietnam and raised in Oregon, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Reed College. He completed his MD and PhD degrees at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Doan completed both an Internal Medicine Internship and General Clinical and Surgical Ophthalmology residency at the University of Iowa. After his ophthalmology training, he completed his fellowship in eye pathology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Doan volunteers as a clinical provider at the Temecula-Murrieta Rescue Mission. He is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Loma Linda University and at the Uniformed Services University School of the Health Sciences. Dr. Doan teaches medical students and residents, published in peer-reviewed academic journals, is managing editor for the Journal of Academic Ophthalmology, and speaks at national meetings. Dr. Doan is the Chair for the Young Ophthalmologist committee, Online News & Education Network Deputy Editor-in-Chief, and  an OPHTHPAC/Congressional Advocacy Committee member for the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In addition, Dr. Doan serves as a Committee Member for the Ophthalmic Mutual Insurance Company. When not pursuing his career interests, he enjoys spending time with family and serving at Rancho Community Church. Dr. Doan has served on humanitarian cataract missions in Burkina Faso Africa.


Sayjal Patel, MD

Dr. Patel practices medical and surgical retina and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Patel subspecializes in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery with a special interest in diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. After graduating from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology, he completed his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He then completed a Transitional Internship and General Clinical and Surgical Ophthalmology residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. Following residency, he pursued extensive training in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at The Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Patel is a reviewer for Ophthalmology and the Journal of Academic Ophthalmology. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to major Ophthalmology textbooks.  Dr. Patel holds faculty positions at Loma Linda University and at the Uniformed Services University School of the Health Sciences. He is actively involved in teaching future ophthalmologists and is dedicated to educational programs and humanitarian efforts. Dr. Patel enjoys traveling and spending time with his family. 


John Cason, MD

Dr. Cason practices Comprehensive Ophthalmology and is a specialist in Cornea, Ocular Surface Disease, and Refractive Surgery.  He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.  Dr. Cason is a graduate of Emory University where he completed his undergraduate degrees.  He then matriculated to the George Washington University Medical School where he acquired his medical doctorate.  He completed his internal medicine internship at the Navy Medical Center Portsmouth and his ophthalmology residency at the Navy Medical Center San Diego.  He then received specialty training in diseases of the cornea at the Doheny Eye Institute which is a part of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA.  Dr. Cason is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS) and has special interests in refractive surgery re-treatments and humanitarian surgical missions.  He is a member of the Ophthalmology Technology Assessment Committee and the Eyewiki editorial board for the AAO.  He actively pursues clinical research and has served as an article reviewer for peer-reviewed scientific journals.  In his spare time, he likes to hike, mountain-bike, fly-fish, and dive.

Mary Porter, Officer Manager

Mary Porter is a Certified Medical Manager by PAHCOM (Professional Association Health Care Office Managers) Mary is in charge of the day to day operations of Eye Associates of Southern California.  She has been a rape crisis counselor and helped begin and named the first sexual assault team locally. (Circle of SAFE-T). She has served on local boards such as Rancho Springs Hospital Auxiliary Executive Board.  Circle of SAFE-T local Board as the Advocate representative as well as Board of Directors for the “Bearbackers” for Temecula Valley High School Football. She was recognized as the Woman of Compassion by the Professional Women’s Roundtable (PWR) and was co awarded the Master of Ceremonies for Temecula’s Inaugural 9/11 Parade by United Way of Southwest Riverside County. She was also nominated for the Women of Merit by North County Times. She was given the Pace Setter Award by the Neighborhood Health Clinic in Temecula/Escondido. She currently teaches third grade Sunday school at Rancho Community Church in Temecula.  Mary was born and raised on a potato farm in Caribou, Maine where she learned her work ethic.  She attributes her ability to get along with everyone by living with and getting along with her nine brothers and sisters.  She is the proud mother of four boys and grandmother of four as well.   In her spare time Mary likes to spend time with her family and travel whenever possible.  She brings with her, over 17 years of medical management experience.  


Christina Etmans, Optical Manager

Christina Etmans is the optical manager for Eye Associates of Southern California.  She was ABO (American Board of Opticianry) Certified in 1998.  She has also been a refractive surgery counselor.  In 2000 she completed the Visx Star Excimer Laser System training course.  Christina not only has the ability to interpret and analyze your eyeglass prescription but she also has a real knack for identifying an individual’s style and needs.  With this winning combination you can feel confident that not only do you have eyewear that is functional but also stylish.

Christina has lived in the Temecula Valley for the past 24 years.  When she is not in the office she is a wife and a mother of 3.  She enjoys spending time with her family, camping, reading, running, and attending her kids sporting events. 


Amy Porter, Ocular Technician

Amy is our expert ocular technician. She conducts important screening and testing for patients.  Outside her role as our ocular technician, she is pursuing a career in health science on a social behavioral level.  Amy enjoys hiking with her dog and reading.

Andrea grew up in Temecula and has lived in the surrounding area since 1980.  She received her BA in Human Development from Azuza Pacific University in 2003 and received her Masters Degree in Education Technology in 2012 also from Azuza Pacific.  Her background is in office administration and education.  She has attended Revival Christian Fellowship since 2000.  Her spare time is spent with family and friends.  She is a sports enthusiast when it comes to watching or going to see the LA Dodgers and Kings.
